The God Who is With US

He's in the Boat

Text: Mark 4:35–41 NKJV

Introduction

• Acknowledge sudden storms and life changes (illness, loss, fear).

• Relate to the congregation’s real struggles and pain—everyone faces storms.

• Key premise: If Jesus is in the boat, you are not going under!

Point 1: The Promise Comes Before the Storm (v.35)

• Jesus said “Let us cross over to the other side”—His word is the anchor for faith.

• God’s promises precede life’s difficulties; sometimes problems arise because of His promise.

• Application: Trust God’s Word even when storms arise; His promise is stronger than any storm.

• Supporting scripture: Isaiah 55:11, Numbers 23:19, 1 Peter 1:24–25.

Point 2: The Presence of Jesus Doesn’t Prevent Storms (vv.37–38)

• The disciples obeyed but still faced a fierce storm; being in God’s will doesn’t guarantee the absence of trouble.

• Jesus was asleep—His peace in the storm is evidence of His authority, not absence.

• Application: Don’t mistake God’s silence for abandonment; His presence is proof of His control even when He seems silent.

• Supporting scripture: Psalm 121:4.

Point 3: The Power of His Word Calms the Chaos (vv.39–40)

• Jesus rebuked the storm, demonstrating His authority over chaos; true peace follows His word.

• Storms reveal where faith truly lies—faith is tested in hardship.

• Application: Trust in God’s Word to bring calm and authority over life’s storms.

Point 4: The Purpose of the Storm—To Reveal the Savior (v.41)

• Calming the storm wasn’t just relief for the disciples—it was a revelation of Jesus’ divinity; storms can reveal God’s character and faithfulness.

• Application: Storms in life don’t just test believers—they reveal the Savior’s power and presence.

• Supporting scripture: Psalm 89:9, Psalm 107:29.

Conclusion

• Jesus remains in the boat—He hasn’t left during life’s storms and is ready to bring peace when called upon.

• Invitation for those struggling: Bring your storms (family, health, finances) to Jesus and let Him speak peace.

• Call to action: Respond in faith, trust His word, and allow the storm to reveal the Savior’s presence.
